Crossbar
Terms of Service
1. Agreement to these terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and Sawdust Labs ("Sawdust Labs," "we," "us," "our") governing your access to and use of the Crossbar iOS app, the getcrossbar.app website, and any related features (together, the "Service"). By downloading, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
If you're using the Service on behalf of a club, school, or team, you're agreeing to these Terms on behalf of yourself and, where applicable, represent that you have authority to enroll the players/participants you add (see §6).
2. The Service
Crossbar is a practice-recording app for individual athletes (currently lacrosse and golf). Using the shutter button, spoken "clip that" trigger, or Autoclip (if enabled), the App saves short clips of your practice from a continuously buffered camera feed, and provides on-device motion-analysis feedback (joint angles, tempo, and similar measurements) compared only against your own prior sessions. See §7 for important limits on what this feedback is and isn't.
Using the core App does not require an account. Optional accounts, described in §6, add cloud sync and team/coach dashboard features.
3. Eligibility and minors
You must be able to form a binding contract to agree to these Terms. If you are under the age of 18 (or the age of majority where you live), you may only use the Service with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian, who agrees to these Terms on your behalf and is responsible for your use of the Service.
We expect a substantial portion of Crossbar's users to be minors, including players added to a roster by a coach or club director. The Service is not intended for use by children under 13; we do not knowingly permit a child under 13 to create their own individual account. See the Privacy Policy §10 for more.
4. Your account (when applicable)
If you create an account, you agree to provide accurate information, keep your login credentials confidential, and notify us promptly of any unauthorized use of your account. You're responsible for activity that occurs under your account. We may suspend or terminate an account that violates these Terms.
5. Your content
"Your Content" means the video clips, audio, and any other material you create, capture, or submit through the Service, including clips attached to a Feedback report or, once launched, synced to a Crossbar account.
- You own Your Content. We don't claim ownership over the video you record of yourself, your training, or (where you're a coach or parent uploading on a minor's behalf) your team's practice footage.
- License to us. By submitting Your Content to us — for example, attaching a clip to a Feedback report, or, once available, syncing clips to a Crossbar account or sharing them with a team — you grant Sawdust Labs a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, transmit, and display that content solely as necessary to operate the Service for you (e.g., to process your Feedback report, to sync your clips across your own devices, or to make them visible to a coach/teammate you've chosen to share with). This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for residual copies retained briefly for backup, legal, or fraud-prevention purposes as described in our Privacy Policy.
- We do not use Your Content to train AI models except as described, and subject to the additional consent commitments, in Privacy Policy §4.
- Your responsibility. You're solely responsible for Your Content and confirm you have the rights (including, for footage of other identifiable people such as teammates, coaches, or family members appearing incidentally in a clip you record) to capture, submit, and share it through the Service. Don't submit content that is unlawful, infringes someone else's rights, or that you don't have permission to share (for example, footage focused on another person who hasn't consented to being recorded).
6. Teams, coaches, and roster features
A coach or club director may create a Team and invite athletes to join, enabling roster-level practice tracking, weekly targets/challenges, and season-long footage review as described in the Privacy Policy §5.
- A coach/club director who creates a Team represents that they have the authority to do so on behalf of their club or organization, and — for any minor participant added to the roster — that appropriate parental/guardian consent for the minor's participation has been obtained by the club/school consistent with the club's own policies and applicable law.
- A player joins a Team voluntarily (or, for a minor, with parental involvement per §3) and can leave at any time; leaving stops the coach's access to that player's future practice activity.
- Coach/club access to a player's data is limited to what's described in the Privacy Policy §5 and is not transferable to a different coach or club without the player rejoining.
7. Motion analysis is feedback, not instruction — disclaimer
Crossbar's motion-analysis feature reports measurements (like joint angles, tempo, or balance) computed from your own video using on-device pose estimation. Please read this carefully:
- It is not coaching, medical, or professional advice. It does not tell you what your technique "should" look like, does not compare you to other people, and is not a substitute for guidance from a qualified coach, trainer, or medical professional.
- It can be wrong. Pose estimation from video is inherently imperfect — lighting, camera angle, clothing, and hardware all affect accuracy, and the App is designed to withhold or flag a measurement rather than guess when it isn't confident, but it may still occasionally over- or under-measure.
- Use your judgment, and consult a qualified professional before making changes to your training based on anything the App reports, especially if you have an injury or physical condition.
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SAWDUST LABS DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES REGARDING THE ACCURACY OR COMPLETENESS OF MOTION-ANALYSIS OUTPUT OR ANY OTHER FEATURE OF THE SERVICE.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service to record or share footage of others without appropriate consent, or in violation of any person's privacy or legal rights;
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the App, except as permitted by law;
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service, attempt to gain unauthorized access to accounts or systems, or use the Service to transmit malware;
- Use the Service in violation of any applicable law, or of Apple's App Store terms and guidelines;
- Misuse the invite/referral program (e.g., through fraudulent signups) to manipulate rewards or leaderboards.
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service for violating this section.
9. Feedback you submit to us
If you submit a bug report, suggestion, or other feedback through the App (including any clips you choose to attach), you agree we may use it to improve the Service without any obligation to compensate you, subject to how we handle any personal information or Your Content within it as described in our Privacy Policy.
10. Third-party services
The App relies on services from Apple (App Store distribution, and on-device frameworks like Vision and Speech Recognition) and other providers described in our Privacy Policy. Your use of those integrated services is also subject to their own terms.
11. Termination
You may stop using the Service, and delete your account, at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service (or specific features) if you violate these Terms, or if we discontinue the Service or a feature, with notice where reasonably practicable. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including §5's license for content already retained per our Privacy Policy, §7, §12, and §13) will survive.
12. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SAWDUST LABS AND ITS FOUNDERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA (INCLUDING PRACTICE CLIPS OR ANALYSIS STORED ONLY ON YOUR DEVICE — WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND ENABLING DEVICE BACKUPS), ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM.
Some jurisdictions don't allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages or warranties, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you.
13. Dispute resolution
If you have a concern or dispute, please contact us first at legal@sawdust.app — most issues can be resolved this way. We currently have no formal or binding arbitration process, and this Service does not include a mandatory arbitration clause or class-action waiver at this time.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the state of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles, and any action not resolved informally under §13 will be brought in the state or federal courts located in that state, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you by updating the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, through the App or by email. Continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.
